Westport's Community Preservation Committee sent a senior league baseball field funding request back for a full rebid after its original premise collapsed. WBRL representative Jim Potter and WYAA president Ken Sullivan said the project's cost has grown to roughly $290,000, up from an initial $150,000 CPA grant, after a matching-fund bid through Potter's employer, HDR, was repeatedly denied because the town never sold the old high school fields the project was meant to replace. "To me, it's a new project," one member said, directing the group to return by December with a full budget and needs assessment.
The committee also swept $3,150 into its historic preservation reserve, approved $3,500 in Community Preservation Coalition dues, and ratified 14 bills, with new member and contractor Brian Valcourt abstaining on a $4,400 payment made to himself. Longtime member Betty announced her resignation after decades of service, as the committee noted it has turned over six of its nine seats this year.
