Other Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026

Westport's bicycle committee heard sharp pushback over a regional bike path proposed along Old Bedford Road and Old Fall River Road. Residents told the committee the South Coast Bikeway Alliance's selected route would take wells, stone walls and driveway frontage, with one resident saying she felt "extremely violated" by the project. Town Planner Michael told members the town favors asphalt over a raised boardwalk for a separate, roughly 1,000-foot Watuppa Connector segment linking Fall River to Route 6, citing lower cost and maintenance for the highway department.

No vote was taken on the contested route; members said any change requires Select Board approval, and engineers are expected to hold a multi-town meeting, tentatively in late October or November. The committee's only formal action was a vote to adjourn at 6:45 p.m.
