Other Committee · Meeting of October 27, 2026

WESTPORT — The Westport Landing Commission re-elected Jeff Bull as chair and was awarded a $965,000 state Seaport Council grant, which still needs Board of Selectmen approval to accept for the first phase of the Hicks Bridge landing renovation. Treasurer Sue Brayton was confirmed in her role and Brenda Figueroa became vice chair. Members sparred over whether the town should enforce Chapter 91 public waterfront access licenses at Westport Point, with one member saying the town has "taken public trust and thrown it out the window." The commission agreed to hold a dedicated meeting, tentatively December 1 at 4 p.m., to discuss the licensing dispute, possibly inviting state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance officials.

Members also discussed raising the landing parking fine to $200 from the current $50, and reviewed an ongoing groundwater contamination monitoring contract tied to former gas tanks at the Head garage site. Minutes from the prior meeting were accepted 4-0 with one abstention.
