Other Committee · Meeting of October 26, 2026

WESTPORT — The Westport Commission on Disability reported a $14,376.47 fund balance and informally agreed to skip meetings until January 25, 2027. Chairman Brian Gallagher led the discussion of the commission's Harvest Festival outreach, where members distributed about 50 brochures and fielded interest from festival organizers in future accessibility partnerships. A staff member walked through a new written donation-handling procedure developed with the town treasurer after a $200 gift needed processing, and reported the commission's handicapped-parking account took in $22,505.29 and spent $11,045.75, including $5,300 to an organization described as doing business as Habitat for Humanity.

Members learned a previously pledged $5,000 contribution to the Hicks Bridge Landing project is not currently needed because the state-funded project already allocates roughly 20 percent of its grant to ADA accessibility work. A member surveying polling places reported accessibility problems at four of five sites checked, with site visits planned for November 3.
