Westport Commission on Disability Backs Dissolving ADA Transition Team at June Meeting

WESTPORT — June 22, 2026 — Westport's Commission on Disability voted by consensus to recommend the Select Board dissolve the town's ADA Transition Team, folding its duties into the commission itself. Chairman Brian Gallagher and Select Board member Richard Brewer, who served on the transition team, agreed the team had rarely met and that its core function — maintaining the town's legally required ADA Transition Plan — properly belongs with the commission. Brewer said he would convey the unanimous consensus to the Select Board at its meeting the same evening, June 22. The commission also received a detailed update from Town Planner Michael Burris and Justine Rooney of Woods Hole Group on the town's Barrier Beach Management Plan, with Rooney confirming that accessible parking spaces at the Nubble will not be removed and that an L- or T-shaped mobi mat at the town's own beach access point has been included in a Notice of Intent filing headed to the Conservation Commission for a public hearing. A follow-on state grant, with a decision expected around September 2026, would fund a broader ADA parking and road-improvement planning process for Beach Avenue.
