WESTPORT — The Westport Conservation Commission approved the Hicksbridge Landing boat ramp reconstruction 4-0 with one abstention, despite unresolved police sign-off on the project's single, blind-curve access point. Town Landing Commission member Jeff Bullock called the ramp's lower section unsafe, saying old dock floats were "dangerous" and caused "bad splinters." Member Philip M. Weinberg said safety concerns raised fell outside the board's wetlands jurisdiction, while another member warned "someone will die on that road at some point." The commission separately approved a Nature Conservancy-led oyster restoration project across six East Branch sites after Westport River Watershed Alliance leaders Jack Cherry and Nancy Mobley spoke in support.
A nine-lot Cornerstone Place subdivision on Sodom Road was continued to September 29 after Conservation Agent Christopher Capone said he "totally did not realize" the site includes critical cold-water fishery habitat along Angeline Brook.
