Westport's Finance Committee weighed a plan to overhaul ambulance-billing collections and locked in a November 16 tri-board budget kickoff.
Finance Committee · Meeting of October 13, 2026
Westport's Finance Committee weighed a plan to overhaul ambulance-billing collections and locked in a November 16 tri-board budget kickoff. Member Al Lees proposed a town "abatement committee" to review fee-relief requests, saying it is unfair to ask the fire department to be "judge, jury and executioner." Chair Karen Raus countered with a Fairhaven-style model using an outside collection agency and small-claims referrals. Vice Chair Cindy Brown noted the committee's $100,000 storm-expense reserve fund sits largely untouched, spending only $5,000 to $10,000 this year.
The Community Preservation Committee reported close to $900,000 to $1 million typically available for projects annually. The panel tabled its September minutes and a member's request to change its standing meeting date, then adjourned on a unanimous 6-0 roll-call vote.
