Board of Health · Meeting of March 2, 2026
Westport Board of Health unanimously approved five septic repair plans and set a capped household hazardous waste collection day for March 28. Acting with a two-member quorum, Chair Tanya Kupprat and member Phil Weinberg, with Donna Amaral absent, the board cleared three Benoit Street repairs requiring only sieve analysis approval and granted extensive local upgrade approvals and variances for two constrained lots. Engineer Len Potter, representing the Biveros Irrevocable Trust at 198 Cadman's Neck Road, secured waivers placing the proposed system as close as six feet from the south property line and 70 feet from a neighboring well, with a 35.5 percent leach field reduction via a denitrification component; conditions include three years of well testing and effluent monitoring of the denitrification unit.
At 654 State Road, engineer Alex Gorodetsky won approval for a revised Elgin system for owner Elmore Orteca, with the on-site well setback reduced from 100 to 50 feet, also subject to three years of well testing. Health Agent Matt Armando warned that rising disposal costs mean the hazardous waste event, 9 a.m. to noon behind the old high school, will be strictly pre-registration only, with sign-ups opening March 9 on the town website.
