WESTPORT — The Westport Council on Aging closed its transportation program's fiscal year in the black for the first time in years as outgoing Director Beverly held her final meeting before handing off to incoming Director of Senior Services Lauren Monticello. Beverly reported a $779,362 total cash budget, $159,033.23 in in-kind volunteer value, and a $52,000 carryover in the state's per-elder formula grant, which funds about $90,000 a year based on $16 per resident 60 and older. Members clashed over a 2015 town bylaw requiring a chair, vice chair, treasurer and secretary, with David LaLima saying "we didn't know there was a bylaw until the day we got to the meeting, and it was sprung on us." The board tabled confirming a prior 3-1 vote electing Chair Eileen Moncrief and Vice Chair Antonio Cestodio pending a forthcoming Select Board handbook on officer duties.
Member Lisa Feitelberg-Costa also reported her Stroke Buddies group received national recognition from the American Heart Association.
